Olympos is a nature reserve with lush forests and wonderful beaches in Antalya. The area is located 85 kilometers south of Antalya province center. Caretta caretta sea turtles lay eggs in Olympos beaches. The area is also quite forested. Olympos is on Lycia road and popular among backpackers. When you walk towards the forest from Çıralı or Olympos beaches, you can see Roman ruins. When you keep going towards the hilss, you reach Yanartaş. On top of the hill there are flames which burns spontaneously between the rocks.
Source of this flames in natural gas deposit in the area. There are some legends in Greek mythology about Yanartaş. Most known among these legends is Chimera. This dragon-like monster, Chimera, lives in Olympos mountain and throws flames from its mouth. Today's olympic torch is symbol of flames of Chimera.
